Hey friends!
During my Arts Entrepreneurship class today, I got inspired for a poem idea about how we're losing arts in our schools. I'm super passionate about keeping them in schools and I want to work hard to do so, so I thought I'd share what I wrote with y'all. If you agree with these statements, please share this post on social media so that we can get the word out about this. Art cannot be left out of curriculum!! Thanks! Enjoy the poem. :)
Love,
Noelle

Deforestation
They say the arts are dwindling
I say we just need kindling
For the fire under the artists
Desperate for their stages again
They need their opportunities
To see the possibilities
Of what could be done within schools.
These children need inspiring
To see what they’re aspiring to be
They want to have purpose
They want to see change
But what’s going to happen
When no one will give them a stage?
We beg for arts in our schools
We plead not to drown in the pools of white noise
Surrounded by mindless drones
Of emotionless clones
Created by the burying of feeling
Watching creative kids keeling over
After losing the opportunity to create
Is this what you want?
To see the artistic world die?
Because that’s what you’re doing by taking away
The kid’s ability to think and to say
What’s going on in their mind
What’s going on in their heart
They’re losing their self-expression
When you remove art
Have you seen the impact?
Have you seen the joy
When a kid views art
As more than a toy?
They start to have confidence
Beaming through their smiles
They start to run with it
They start running for miles
They learn to love themselves
And how to cope with life’s struggles
Instead of just falling apart
After trying to be jugglers
Don’t you see?
We need art in our schools.
Too many people already go through life
Struggling through trials, tribulations, and strife
With no real outlet to just be free
So please understand, just listen to me
Don’t take away theatre,
Art,
Band,
Dance,
Choir,
Graphic Design
Please don’t print that contract
Don’t get ready to sign
Just look at that child
Look in their eyes
And try to tell them
“You’ll have to disguise
All your feelings, your hurt, your emotion.
Slather on a ‘normal’ face as if it were lotion.
Don’t be creative.
You’re not allowed to be free.
Your self-expression is getting cut down like a tree.”
Do you really want to deal with deforestation again?
